The Datai Langkawi, Kedah

Tengku Zai, Editor

When it comes to holiday destinations throughout Malaysia for any reason whatsoever, Langkawi always comes up tops — great food, a short flight from KL, plenty to do/see, and of course, it’s duty-free! But if you’re looking for love in the Jewel of Kedah, then The Datai is the place to be. As a quasi-local of the island, I’ve stayed at just about every stunning resort there is to be enjoyed on Langkawi and can tell you from personal experience that The Datai will not disappoint if what you’re looking for is quality time with your SO, but make it boujie and idyllic.

Regarding your stay, The Datai is a sprawling resort of just 121 suites and villas, meaning that quietude and privacy are ensured. It’s also one of those self-sufficient resorts, where you can spend your holiday rapt withal in each other’s company and never leave the bubble of the property. From nature walks to enjoying cocktails at the bar, to a breathtaking vista of the Andaman Sea and Tarutao Island, to heavenly couples treatments at The Spa, seriously, why even consider leaving at all? Oh, and don’t get us started on the food! It’s home to what’s easily the best fine dining fare you’ll find on Langkawi.

Pangkor Laut Resort, Perak

Xin Xin Lee, Head of Design

Pangkor Laut Resort has beautiful wooden private villas on stilts along the Straits of Malacca. Built within a lush green forest, this famous resort has its own private beach for those looking for that bit of extra privacy.

While, you’ll be able to shy away from people, you won’t be able to escape being surrounded by native wildlife; in a good way, of course. Expect to keep in the company of oriental pied hornbills, white-bellied sea eagles, monitor lizards, and long-tailed macaques around the resort, which makes it an even more attractive destination.

One&Only Desaru Coast, Johor

Fiona Thong, Sales & Marketing Lead

One&Only Desaru Coast, located in Johor, is one of the top choices of resorts to go to if you’re looking to stay at a property by the beach that’s the pinnacle of luxury. I like it because it feels exclusive. Of course, there are other guests at the resort, but never will it ever be crowded with throngs of guests, especially when you’re heading over during their non-peak season. The widespread breakfast buffet is one of the highlights too.

The Danna Langkawi, Kedah

Emma Mallaburn, Sub-Editor

Malaysians are spoiled with beautiful resorts, and one of my absolute favourites has got to be The Danna Langkawi. If I could do over my honeymoon and make it a local spot, this would be it. Top-notch service, a 5-star experience tucked away in the quieter part of this famed island, and let me tell you, the rooms are incredible — one of the best beds I have ever slept on! The blend of colonial-mediterranean charm is as spacious as they are beautiful.

Being a foodie, one of the many lovable things about this resort is its food. There are three restaurants to choose from, and while each differs from the other, the Terrace offers exquisite Italian dining. With a sprawling (and inviting pool) dotted with plenty of sunbeds, The Danna is perfect for honeymooners looking to do nothing but bask in the presence of each other against a luxurious backdrop.
