Ever wondered what it might be like to delve into the mind of Tim Burton, director of cult classics such as Corpse Bride, and Edward Scissorhands, and the recent hit Netflix series, Wednesday?

If you’re a Tim Burton fan, you won’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime mesmerising global tour exhibition that is coming to Southeast Asia for the first time. And it’s happening right here in Kuala Lumpur!

According to a post on the director’s official site, an upcoming interactive display will bring Burton’s fantastic gothic universe to life. The exhibition, titled ‘The World of Tim Burton’, will open at Pavilion Bukit Jalil on 21 March and will run until 30 July 2023.

What to expect

The exhibition will feature 540 works, including signature pieces from the Tim Burton retrospective and over 150 new works not seen in the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) tour.

Malaysians may anticipate seeing life-sized sculptures arranged according to Tim Burton’s five-decade career, separated into 10 thematic areas, as well as sketches, paintings, drawings, photographs, maquettes, and puppets utilised in his film works.

In addition to the artist’s iconic Balloon Boy sculpture greeting visitors at the entry, the exhibition features a wide range of other impressive creations made especially for this show.

Visitors to ‘The World of Tim Burton’ can see Burton’s work in person for the first time, and those who are already familiar with Burton’s work will get a special treat in the form of a deeper dive into the director’s aesthetic.

South Korea, the Czech Republic, Japan, China, Germany, Brazil, Hong Kong, Mexico, and Taiwan are lucky enough to have already hosted exhibitions of Tim Burton’s ‘The World of Tim Burton’. And we can’t wait for our turn!

Tickets will be available for purchase on KOL Nation, TicketCharge, and at the venue beginning 11 January. For updates, register here.
