Not many luxury hotels have their own forest reserve. Located in Kota Kinabalu, Shangri-La Rasa Ria is a resort that boasts its very own 64-acre natural reserve that gives visitors a chance to experience the spectacular jungle rainforest of Borneo.
The Rasa Ria Reserve’s new online platform is committed to giving visitors access to interesting, instructive, and entertaining content. Of course, those of you looking for a romantic break or a tranquil retreat can immediately start arranging a trip and exciting activities here too.
When you book your activities, you’ll be given access to the site where you can explore all the alternatives accessible to you in order to customise your dream vacation to specific interests or preferences.
Activities to look forward to
Guests can look forward to customised programmes and trips centred on cultural learning, mindful living, and active spirits adventure. The Junior Ranger Experience, on the other hand, includes kid-friendly activities. Discover the glories of these stunning natural beauties by taking part in one of the many carefully planned activities, such as Borneo Sunrise, Canopy Walkway, or Bird Watching, all of which are included in your tour.
To help you get the most out of your visit, the reserve’s most qualified and experienced rangers will be there to help.
Learn the indigenous species
Established in 1996 to safeguard an ecological asset and native Sabah species in jeopardy, Shangri-La Rasa Reserve is administered and owned by the resort. To blend in with the surrounding jungle, a Discovery Centre was also built using eco-friendly materials.
The Rasa Ria Reserve’s entry point acts as an educational hub for visitors to learn about the indigenous long-tailed macaques, macaw parrots, Bornean keeled pit viper, and famous huge-eyed slow loris, as well as over 60 species of birds, 100 kinds of butterflies, and a variety of native plants.
Embark on nature walks
From Nunuk to Timpak Pogimpaan to Tindohuon, Belud, Ponitihan, and Nintorusan, there are six walking trails that immerse visitors in the jungle. Each path can be explored and enjoyed for up to two hours.
Guests will have the opportunity to see a wide variety of flora and fauna on the six different trails at the Rasa Ria Reserve. Medicinal plants and trees, as well as mammals like the long-tailed macaque and the slow loris, insects, and reptiles, are all found here.
The Timpak Pogimpaan top platform offers views of Sabah’s Mount Kinabalu — a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Malaysia’s highest peak— and the sunrise. Early risers can take an early trek to the summit followed by breakfast to immerse themselves in the majesty of the environment and connect with views across the Tambalang River and Dalit Bay Golf & Country Club, the resort’s own 18-hole championship golf course.
Have fun with water sports
The hotel also offers a selection of organised activities for adrenaline seekers and water sports lovers. Guests can enjoy and select sports such as jet-skiing, e-foil surfing, ATV riding, and horse riding on the beach. You can also get a taste of the diverse Sabah culture by learning about the Bajau and Dusun tribes of Tuaran, two of the more than 30 ethnic groups in the state.
At the end of the day, rejuvenate from your day of exploring nature with the Ria Reset package — a collaboration between the property and LUSH — while admiring the sweeping sea view from Ocean Wing’s exclusive oversized balcony bathtub.
The Ria Reset package is a two-night vacation for families with children under six years old, as well as for couples or individuals who want to get away from the daily grind and reconnect with nature. The deal includes a special welcome box that contains a LUSH bath soap made from ethically-sourced components like corn starch and lavender oils, complementing the resort’s sustainable efforts.
Booking for the Ria Reset with LUSH is open from 1 August to October 31 and for stays until 20 December 2022.
