Living in a tropical country means it’s sunny all year long, though we do have the occasional monsoon seasons, which is why we’re so appreciative of air-conditioned shopping malls. And if you didn’t already know, Malaysia has more than enough of them, and Malaysians LOVE going to them.
But isn’t it high time to do something other than window shopping with the family? There are so many things to do with your loved ones outdoors, like hiking or a picnic at the park, and if you’re an animal lover, these places may be right up your alley. Check out some of the best spots in Selangor to explore if you love animals.
1. Farm Fresh @ UPM, Seri Kembangan
Ever since Farm Fresh @ UPM opened its doors, Malaysians, especially those with little ones, have made a beeline to check out what they have to offer — a chance to reconnect with nature and, at the same time, learn how the brand produces the freshest dairy products.
This family-friendly attraction has lots to do, like riding tractors, checking out the petting zoo, and indulging in farm-to-table dining. While it’s open from 10am to 5pm on weekdays and till 7pm on weekends, morning is still the best time to visit. Malaysian weather can get pretty sweltering, so bring a hat!

If you love animals, this place is the perfect go-to for some animal therapy. You get to interact with most animals up close here, and if you want to do more, you can even make a donation. Some animals are up for adoption too, if you’re looking for a forever furbaby!

The tour also includes ‘missions’, where participants receive a vegetable reward upon completing each quest. Reservations are required here, so be sure to check that off your list before visiting. On Sundays, their market offers fresh organic produce and other healthy products to take home.

Those with little kids will be pleased to know there is a playground on-site too!

6. Ostrich Wonderland, Semenyih
Calling all ostrich lovers! This is a spot where you can get up close and personal with these flightless birds, and it’s not to be missed. While this attraction is owned by poultry farmers that raise these animals for their meat, the spacious compound where the animals roam freely gave them the idea to allow public visits. Other animals that call this place their home include goats, rabbits, donkeys, monkeys, and ponies.

Like most petting zoos, you can check out the animals here, but there’s also a restaurant on site! Say hi to the iguanas, deer, peacocks, ostrich, and more when you visit. Once you’re done, stop at the restaurant and indulge in pizza, pasta, and other delicious dishes.
