Grab your passports and get ready for an unforgettable journey because the news we’ve all been waiting for is finally here — The Eastern and Oriental Express (E&O Express) is making a grand comeback to Southeast Asia in February 2024!
A timeless tale of elegance
For those of you who haven’t heard of the E&O Express, let us paint a picture for you: imagine luxurious train carriages gliding through lush landscapes, passing quaint villages, and crossing picturesque places — that’s the E&O Express experience in a nutshell.
Belmond, the luxury travel firm that operates the train, is establishing two new routes in Southeast Asia. The E&O Express will set out from Singapore and travel through the heart of Southeast Asia, stopping to explore the fascinating cities of Malaysia. Each location will have its own distinctive cultural encounters, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the local customs and cuisine.
A luxurious tour of Malaysia
The Essence of Malaysia route, that will run from February to November, will take tourists through Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, and Penang while providing a number of excursions throughout the three-night journey. Guests can take a 25-minute boat ride to Pulau Payar Marine Park, where they can enjoy a picnic, go snorkelling, and explore the island.
From March until October, tourists can take the Wild Malaysia route for three nights, which takes them deep into the country’s jungle. The excursions on that programme range from a trip to Penang Island’s George Town’s Old Quarter to a stop at Taman Negara National Park.
Gastronomic delights on the move
Of course, let’s not forget the dining experience — it’s an absolute feast for the senses! The onboard chefs whip up delectable dishes inspired by the regional cuisine using fresh, local ingredients. Whether you’re a foodie or simply enjoy indulging in fine dining, the E&O Express won’t disappoint your taste buds.
For those looking to relax and unwind, the train offers beautifully appointed cabins with all the modern comforts you could ask for. Sink into a plush bed, read a book, or simply watch the world go by outside your window — this is your personal sanctuary on wheels.
Pullman, State, and Presidential carriages all come with private restrooms and air conditioning. Cherry wood panelling and a sumptuous red and blue colour scheme are used for decorating them.
The price of luxury
Undoubtedly, the E&O Express is the pinnacle of luxury travel, and such a grand experience comes with a hefty price tag. Prices for the Pullman cabin start at USD3,410 (roughly RM15,499) per person for both the three-night Essence of Malaysia and three-night Wild Malaysia itineraries.
