Johor Bahru (JB) is a famous tourist destination for both Malaysians and Singaporeans. The state capital of Johor has always been seen as an alternative to staying in Singapore as the lion city’s hotel rates are notorious for being astronomical. The good news is that there a number of awesome resorts in and around JB — the latest being Sunway Hotel’s Big Box.

Following Johor’s shift to Phase Two of Malaysia’s National Recovery Plan and in preparation for the expected restoration of interstate travel, Sunway Hospitality unveiled its Sunway Hotel Big Box in phases over the weekend. The hotel is Sunway’s first in southern Malaysia and is themed to be a new haven of nature and adventure.

The 284-room 4-star hotel located in Sunway City Iskandar Puteri, is a 1,800-acre integrated township with residential, hospitality, retail, educational, and upcoming medical elements. The hotel is surrounded by some of the region’s lushest mangrove forests, thanks to Sunway’s extraordinary preservation and conservation efforts.

Sunway Hotel Big Box, which was launched on 1 October, is easily accessible via Senai International Airport, Puteri Harbour International Ferry Terminal, and the Coastal Highway Southern Link (CHSL) from Singapore, which is just 5km away.

Where nature meets adventure

Couples, families, and corporate groups will be able to create their own adventures within this eco-paradise, which covers acres of wild, green space. Cycling paths, hiking trails, and other soon-to-be-revealed activities will envelop guests in nature.

Alternatively, X PARK, which is within walking distance of the hotel, offers adrenaline-pumping activities such as ATV driving, go-karting, paintball, indoor snowboarding, and more. Meanwhile, the Sunway Big Box Retail Park is a one-of-a-kind open-air mall with 500,000 square feet (46,000 sqm) of space and numerous retail, F&B, and entertainment options, offering world-class retail therapy.

What to expect

Guests can choose from five different types of rooms: Deluxe Rooms, Deluxe Plus Rooms, Family Suites, Executive Suites, and Premier Suites. All rooms feature modern interiors, complimentary Wi-Fi, smart flat-screen IPTVs, mini-fridges, coffee and tea making facilities, and sofa beds in certain categories.

A range of environmental concerns are considered as part of Sunway’s unwavering commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: each hotel room will also provide reusable, sanitised, and sealed stainless-steel bottles with water dispensers on every floor. Guest bathrooms will feature organic shampoo and bath gel in recyclable containers, reducing the need for sin. A self-check-in kiosk in the foyer will speed up the check-in procedure while also lowering the hotel’s paper usage.

When not exploring the neighbourhood, visitors can relax in the outdoor pool and children’s pool, work out at the 24-hour fitness centre, or unwind at the Pool Bar. The Pendas Café offers local and foreign cuisine and there’s also a 24-hour in-room dining menu, while a link bridge connects to a variety of other F&B options at Sunway Big Box Retail Park.

The hotel is currently offering amazing deals for those making direct bookings with the property from now until 31 December, 2021. Head over to their website so you don’t miss out!
