Sri Lanka may be known for their safaris, but let’s explore other reasons why you should head to this South Asian island for a romantic holiday with your significant other.

Guimaras, located in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines, is a rustic and tranquil island where the main industries are fishing and farming. This fairly large island is surrounded by tiny islets, crystalline ocean, sweeping vistas, and powder-white sands - perfect for island hopping!

In a continuation of our #ZafigoStories: Humans of Lockdown series, we reached out to our community of travellers from around the world to share their unique experiences, to show you that while your life might not be comfortable right now, there is still much to live for and look forward to.

The Death Railway which travels through Thailand and Myanmar was built during World War II, and used to transport troops and supplies between the two countries.

My previous host, Tanya, told me about this riverside paradise in Quito, Ecuador, owned by her parents-in-law and said if I wanted to camp there, she could hook me up. I thought, why not? In my mind, I was about to head to a magical mountain land in an area called Pachijal Forest.

Our fun-but-hectic itinerary covered Colombo–Ella–Nuwara Eliya–Mirissa–Galle–Colombo. At some point in the planning stage, it became very obvious that our usual travel luggage wasn’t going to be practical or convenient. That is how our trip to Sri Lanka unexpectedly turned into our first experience at backpacking.

Of course, you can still enjoy the white sands and crystal waters, but there’s so much more on offer in Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s largest island.

Like with everything else in life, it’s really all the little things that count, and these are the things we’re most looking forward to when we eventually start travelling again.

Even when COVID-19 started making headlines, I didn’t take it too seriously. Until it reached the city I was in. And as with every unexpected major change in life, I went through several phases before coming to terms with accepting that this pandemic was really happening.
