Skyline Luge has reached the shores of Gamuda Gardens, Rawang, and has received quite a bit of fanfare. After experiencing it ourselves, we can see why! Situated atop a hill within Gamuda Gardens, its stature is clearly visible from the North-South Expressway.
After exiting the highway, it’s a mere five to ten minutes drive before you arrive. There is ample parking, and at the entrance is a huge ‘WELCOME’ sign, which leads to both the Fun Park and Luge.
It was a fun-filled, exhilarating evening for us to experience the Skyline Luge. The place was clean, and everything was well-managed. Clean toilets are aplenty, both at the bottom and at the top of the Luge hill tracks. Food is available not too far away at the FunPark, just opposite the entrance to the Luge.
Based on our experience, here are a few things to note before you lunge into your next luge outing:
When should I go?
The operating hours are from 10am to 6pm on Mondays to Thursdays, and 10am to 10pm on Fridays to Sundays. Their hours may change during festive seasons like Ramadan, public holidays, and school holidays, which are usually displayed on their official website.
Buying your Luge tickets online ahead of time is simple. Visit their website and choose your preferred time slot. Note that there may be limited slots available, especially during peak season.
If you’re all about skipping queues and wouldn’t mind the scorching heat, midday noon to 4pm on a weekday would be a great option – fewer crowds, short queues, and good views when you’re at the top of the tracks.
“But, I Puteri Lilin lah.”, you say. We hear you. If you’re someone who can’t stand the heat, you can either bring a hat during midday OR go for the evening-to-night session that is proven to be a comfortable and enjoyable option. It’ll be a different experience travelling through the tunnels with warp-speed lights.
What do I wear?
Don something comfortable, airy, and non-flappy. We wouldn’t want your nice long dress getting stuck in the wheels now, would we? For footwear, toe-covered shoes are recommended for better grip on the cart and to protect the toes. This also prevents your slippers from falling off as you’re taking the Skyride (a chairlift) up.
Tips on taking the Skyride
And yes, you’ll need to take the Skyride up. (We can already hear some of you trembling from fear of heights). Fear not; it’s a four-seater chairlift for you and three brave comrades so that you won’t be alone.
In consolation, the view on the way up is rather splendid and the cool breeze of the evening added to our wonderful experience. It was also cloudy with a chance of rain, but luckily, the skies were gracious to us.
To reduce the anxiety of taking that Skyride, it’s best to eat and drink something light before going up. Riding with others, having laughs, and chitchatting takes off the edge too. Taking photos and videos of the view helps divert your focus from how high up you’re going. And, of course, don’t look down!
There are safety nets in place too, so really, there’s nothing to be afraid of.
What do I need to bring?
A bottle of water, a hat, plasters (just in case), a fully charged phone to capture key moments, and a phone strap to secure your phone when you’re on the Skyride taking photos.
Best to keep everything in a small bag as you’ll need to bring this bag along with you on the ride; even better would be to wear clothes and bottoms with pockets to stuff everything in.
If you’re a first-timer, there’s a special lane just for you. The helpful staff will guide you through how to handle your Luge. Once we tested our brakes, we were ready to roll.
For keepsakes, Luge has official cameras and photographs taking pictures of us zooming down the hill and taking the Skyride. So, instead of fiddling with our phones and cameras before starting, we only needed to worry about enjoying ourselves.
Last but not least, go with good company. Nothing says fun like being with the right company, even if it’s in the wrong place. But trust us when we say that Skyline Luge at Gamuda Gardens can never be the wrong place. Racing down the hill in an environmentally friendly way is now one for our memory books.
Remember to smile at all times because cameras everywhere take your candid and winning moments. Would I recommend trying it at least once with your squad? YES!
