There’s a certain allure about a swing on the beach. I think it’s safe to say that whenever we see one, we gravitate towards it, and a photo quickly becomes mandatory. Why, sometimes, we’ll even go to a swing just because it’s set against breathtaking natural views for a photo op — anything for the ‘Gram, really.
If that’s who you are, well, then this list is for you (we’re guilty of the same, don’t worry). These swings throughout Southeast Asia have sweeping vistas of paid fields, cliffs, and ocean behind them, so whichever you decide on, you can bet it’ll make for a phenomenal shot.
Sao Beach, Phu Quoc, Vietnam
As you can see, this one is from personal experience. Powder-soft sands, crystalline water, and the most uninterrupted panorama of blue water are what you can expect from Sao Beach. Phu Quoc is blessed with numerous stunning beaches, all of them different. But this has got to be among the most stunning.
Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia
For those who love to venture off the beaten path, you’ll have heard of Nusa Penida or been there. A destination just off the super-touristy Bali, this tiny island has a swing that will let you swing into paradise. Once you’ve done the must-do hikes and treks, be sure to stop by this swing for a shot (at romance).
Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Enter into the heart of the island if you wish to escape Bali’s nightlife. Although Ubud isn’t exactly super quiet, it’s not as hectic as Seminyak, and we reckon that this is one of those tourist traps that might be worth it. Pay a visit to Aloha Ubud Swing for some AMAZING photo ops. You can choose between many swings for some great shots, so do take your time.
Tegallalang, Bali, Indonesia
Okay, we promise this is the last entry for Bali. But we just couldn’t leave these off the list. How cute is this nest-like swing overlooking the paddy fields? Bali has so many beautiful swings to pick from you could shoot a whole series on them.
Giant Swing, Bangkok, Thailand
Yes, we realise this isn’t a swing you can sit on, but it’s impressive nonetheless. Bangkok’s towering Giant Swing dates back to 1784. Originally used as part of a ceremony during the Brahman Festival, today, it stands proud just outside Wat Suthat (a Buddhist temple), juxtaposing modern life with ancient living.
Dalawella Beach, Sri Lanka
Arguably the most famous rope swing in the world, people legit once flocked to this beach for a shot on this swing. Equal parts simple but functional, you will need to pay a small fee for a ride. But it’s worth it.
Rawa Island, Johor, Malaysia
Of course, we couldn’t leave fair Malaysia off the list. This little gem is located just off the southern state of Johor, on Rawa Island. If Rawa’s amazing slides and pristine ocean and beach weren’t enough to lure you to this local escape, then perhaps laidback afternoons spent on this swing with a cocktail in hand will.
