Travellers in the present day are far more flight-savvy than they were before. Many of us can now afford comfortable and convenient flights at low prices thanks to budget airlines. Choosing the perfect hotel for our trips, on the other hand, is not always that simple. There are numerous elements to consider, and our judgments are often influenced by travel budget, style, needs, and location. And when we thought we’d found the ideal hotel that checks off all the criteria on our list, we realised it didn’t even come close to meeting our expectations — and we wished we’d done more research!

Taking this into consideration, Shopee has partnered with Agoda and Booking.com to introduce Shopee Hotel, allowing users to search, book, and receive quick confirmation for over one million hotel properties worldwide, all from within the Shopee app.

Consumers will benefit from higher discounts and exclusive travel deals, as well as the ability to uncover prominent landmarks near their preferred hotels, which may drive the exploration of local enclaves, neighbourhoods, and attractions. Meanwhile, hotel partners can make use of the Shopee app’s expanded reach and visibility.

Shopee Hotel will launch in seven Asian markets – Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines – just as domestic and international travel resumes in most of the region’s marketplaces. According to Agoda’s search data from September 2021, inquiries for domestic stays have increased by almost 57% since May. There has also been a 37% increase in users seeking international destinations in Southeast Asia. Shopee’s chief operating officer, Terence Pang, stated that the company is willing to help local travel and tourism businesses recover by promoting staycation concepts with hotel partners.

Damien Pfirsch, Chief commercial officer at Agoda, said, “Travellers know and trust Agoda and Booking.com to help make travel easier because we are passionate about using our technology to connect people with the widest choice and greatest value deals, whether they are in Asia or across the world. This partnership with Shopee, the first with a regional e-commerce partner, will conveniently bring these great deals to Shopee customers on a platform they are familiar with.

“At the same time, we can better support our hotel partners and tourism operators by connecting them to the biggest online community of shoppers in Southeast Asia. Such partnerships will help accelerate the recovery of the domestic and global travel and tourism industry in the long term.”
