However, accessing this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage Site has often proven challenging due to limited airport options and infrastructure. This is set to change thanks to Cambodia’s newest and biggest airport, which aims to facilitate easier travel for tourists heading to Angkor Wat.
Located just a stone’s throw away from the iconic Angkor Wat temple complex, Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport is now Cambodia’s largest and most accessible gateway to the historical treasures of Angkor Wat. With this new development, Cambodia aims to welcome more visitors to its historical gem.
One of the primary goals of this expansion is to offer tourists a more efficient and convenient travel experience. With increased capacity, Siem Reap International Airport can now accommodate a growing number of international flights, making it easier for tourists from around the world to reach this enchanting destination.
According to the Phnom Penh Post, the new airport, built in accordance with a deal between China and Cambodia, can handle 7 million passengers annually. There are currently proposals to upgrade it such that starting in 2040, it can handle 12 million passengers annually.
The new airport receives flights from many nearby locations, such as Bangkok, Singapore, and Ho Chi Minh City.
