If you’re on a new year, new me diet, this listicle isn’t for you; but if you’re looking for a cheeky excuse to break your resolution already, then keep on reading. There is no doubt that the Malaysian breakfast is arguably some of the best in the world. While many countries boast a specific dish, Malaysia has many – nasi lemak, roti canai, roti bakar, mee goreng, and so much more. I could go on, but the list would be endless.

However, as much as my heart beats for our local dishes, there is one breakfast dish that I love, and that is none other than the English breakfast. Growing up in a partial British family and household, it’s no wonder I have such fond feelings for this particular plate of heart attack. Bacon, fried egg, sausage, mushrooms, baked beans, toast, and grilled tomatoes, usually served with tea or coffee — it’s truly an indulgent way to start one’s day.

If you find yourself hankering for such as I do at times, here are some of the best spots in Kuala Lumpur (KL) and Petaling Jaya (PJ), where you can get a decent fix of English breakfast.

Feeka Coffee Roasters, KL & PJ

First up on the list is the ultra-trendy Feeka Coffee Roasters or affectionately known by the locals as just Feeka. Their name comes from the Swedish word Fika, which means ‘to take a break’, and that’s exactly what you can do here. Their Feeka Breakfast consists of salt beef, potato croquet, roast tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, toast and eggs. While it’s not your ‘traditional’ English breakfast since it’s missing baked beans, it still hits the spot. And the salt beef definitely makes it Muslim-friendly too!

Check out any one of their three outlets — Jalan Mesui, Platinum Park, and Happy Mansion — for more than just their breakfast plate. They serve decent coffee, various types of pasta, burgers, and more.

Address: 19, Jalan Mesui, Bukit Bintang, 50200 Kuala Lumpur | Platinum Park, Ground Floor, Naza Tower, 50088 Kuala Lumpur | Happy Mansion, Jalan 17/13, Section 17, 46400 Petaling Jaya

Yellow Brick Road, KL

YBR has moved into their new and trendy home at The Five on Jalan Dungun in Damansara, and their fanbase has come along too, as seen on most weekdays and weekends. While they were famously known for their delicious sweet and savoury styles of serving pancakes, their Big Breakfast Bash is much to shout about. I liken it to a fancy version of what an English breakfast is, thanks to the addition of roast pumpkin and ricotta.

Come here for breakfast and stay for the rest of the decadent items on the menu. You may not find The Wizard of Oz here, but their coffee and desserts will make your day.

Antipodean, KL & PJ

Okay, okay, we know Antipodean is a renowned Aussie brunch chain in the Klang Valley (they have outlets in the Philippines and Indonesia too). Still, their All-Day Breakfast is so similar to an English breakfast it may as well be one. And who can resist mentioning Antipodean when it concerns breakfast staples?

Here, one has the freedom to add on, replace, or do without, so it’s truly personalised, and you can make your plate as indulgent or as healthy as you choose for it to be. True coffee lovers will love their brewed cup of joe too! Three of four outlets are kid-friendly (there’s a children’s play area) and furbaby-friendly! Check out their outlet listing here.

Three Little Pigs & the BIG BAD WOLF, KL

Three Little Pigs & the BIG BAD WOLF has been around for a little over a decade, and they’ve kept it simple, delicious, and consistent. Their I’m So Hungry I Could Eat A Wolf! breakfast dish has all the ingredients (sans hash browns) that make a classic English breakfast, even if most ingredients are imported from the US. Their Bacon & Scrambled Egg Croissant is also a lighter alternative if you’re watching your calorie intake, but we highly recommend their breakfast plate.

Sausage KL Cafe & Deli, KL

Okay, y’all. This is the motherlode — no misses here. At Sausage KL, their breakfast plates are the real deal and then some. There’s even black pudding, and honestly, it doesn’t get any more English than that. Besides offering dine-in options, Sausage KL is also the perfect place to go if you want to purchase meat with zero preservatives. Their Mont Kiara outlet has a play area for kids, so those with little ones may want to keep this in mind.
