It’s never too early or late to take care of yourself and make healthy changes to your routine, so you think, feel, and look the best for yourself. This Women’s Health Month, #teamZafigo encourages women to take control, starting from within.
In this latest session of Hello Zafigo, hosted by Zafigo’s Editor, Eliza Thomas, we speak to Lavender Tan, a clinical psychologist from The Mind, which offers professional yet approachable individual, couple, family, and behavioural therapy amongst other services, as well as TV host and emcee Che Puan Sarimah Ibrahim, who is also a mental health advocate and patron of mental health advocacy and peer support NGO, MIASA Malaysia. About Lavender Tan
Lavender Tan has always been fascinated by how people of drastically varied backgrounds and experiences find ways to connect with one another. This led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Cardiff University in Wales. She returned to Malaysia to complete a Postgraduate Certificate in Therapeutic Play, while also working with children on the autism spectrum. Her experience of balancing the two roles made her realise that mental health is a concern and a need in everybody, whether you’re a corporate professional struggling to meet expectations, or a parent raising a child with developmental difficulties. This drove her desire to develop more in-depth skills that would better enable her to help others and led her to pursue a Masters in Clinical Psychology at HELP University.
Lavender sees therapy as a collaborative process. She admires the strength and bravery that her clients show in taking this step towards changing their lives, and works closely with them to develop healthy coping skills, grow through adversities and strive for meaningful personal goals.

About Che Puan Sarimah Ibrahim
Most Malaysians know Che Puan Sarimah Ibrahim as a beloved TV host, emcee, and entertainer, having hosted The Biggest Loser Asia and Disney Channel shows, as well as starred in films such as Gerak Khas 3 and Janji Diana. For all her work in the industry, she has won notable awards from AIM, Anugerah Skrin TV3, Karangkraf, Anugerah Sri Angkasa, and also an ERA Best New Artiste music award.
What many may not know is that she studied Psychology as a major in college and over the last few years, has been an active speaker and advocate in discussions and forums focusing especially on topics related to mental health, women’s welfare, and cybersecurity.
Sarimah was the ambassador for Women’s Centre For Change in Penang, a Cervical Cancer Awareness ambassador with MAKNA, and is currently an active speaker with MIASA Malaysia, with whom she was recently appointed a patron. She is also open about her own struggles with postpartum depression.
Mental Illness Awareness & Support Association (MIASA) is a mental illness NGO founded by patients for patients in 2017. They provide counselling, assessments, support groups, and various programmes to educate and empower patients with a purpose to promote awareness on the importance of mental health, and address and clarify misconceptions on mental health issues and conditions. They offer holistic solutions, not only from a medical perspective but spirituality as well. highlighting the critical importance of the recovery model focusing on empowerment, autonomy, and rights-based approach.
