Exciting news for frequent flyers! Starting 1 April 2025, Malaysia Airlines is giving travellers a power boost—literally. You can now bring two power banks on board. But before you start celebrating, though, keep in mind that although they can accompany you on your journey, they cannot be utilised in midair.

If your power bank falls between 100-160Wh, you’re good to go. But there’s one golden rule: these power packs need to stay in your carry-on or tucked away under the seat or in the seat pocket in front of you for the entire flight. If you’re thinking of tossing one into your checked luggage, think again—it’s a strict no-go.

While you can bring power banks along for the ride, using them mid-flight is off-limits. Whether you’re taking off or cruising through the clouds, they need to stay unplugged and untouched.

This isn’t just a Malaysia Airlines thing. Other major airlines are also rolling out similar policies to keep flying safe and hassle-free. Airlines like Thai Airways, Batik Air, Singapore Airlines, and Scoot are also introducing similar regulations, ensuring a seamless and secure experience for all travellers.

Pocket-sized (around 10,000mAh, charges your phone once or twice) → Good to go.
Mid-sized (20,000mAh, charges your phone 4-5 times) → You’re cleared for takeoff!
Massive (43,000mAh+, powers up a laptop multiple times) → Sorry, it stays behind. Still unsure?

Check the Wh (watt-hour) or mAh (milliamp-hour) rating on the label.
This new policy applies to all flights operated by Malaysia Airlines, Firefly, and MASwings—so remember these rules for stress-free, powered-up travel.
