Taiwan is known for its breathtaking landscapes, delicious food, and friendly people, making it a perfect destination for travellers looking to experience something new and exciting.

To make your trip even more enjoyable, the Taiwanese government is giving away stored-value cards and accommodation vouchers to visitors starting from 1 May 2023 to revitalise tourism in the country. With these, you’ll be able to explore more places, taste more food, and have a much more comfortable stay.

What to know about the vouchers

Taiwan plans to offer 500,000 tourists travel incentives worth NT$5,000 (RM 725.81) each starting in May 2023 to draw in more tourists from abroad. The travel incentives would take the shape of smart cards with the amount stored inside or lodging coupons.

The dedicated website, which will go live on 1 May 2023, is where visitors must register in advance. When you arrive at one of Taiwan’s four airports, you can enter a lucky draw to get one of the vouchers. They are Taoyuan International Airport, Songshan Airport, Taichung International Airport, and Kaohsiung International Airport. Winners can collect their prizes by presenting their identification at the airport’s information desk or the Tourism Bureau’s main office.

A tourism bureau official said participants will receive a QR code after registering on the site on 28 April 2023 at 12pm. At the airport, passengers can scan the QR code to see if they are one of the 500,000 lucky draw winners.

Who is eligible

All foreign passport holders entering Taiwan for stays of three days or more and not exceeding 90 days are eligible. The programme runs through 2025, with this year seeing the distribution of half of the 500,000 eligible coupons. Visitors who travel on agency-arranged trips or cruises will not be eligible for the travel incentive.

Individual travellers would be eligible for the awards, while travel companies will be eligible for subsidies from NTD 10,000 (RM 1451.61) to NTD 20,000 (RM 2903.22) for groups visiting Taiwan.

How to use the voucher

Winners can receive either a NT$5,000 voucher to be used towards hotel expenses or a NT$5,000 digital card. Those who have chosen to claim their prize in the form of electronic tickets may store the money on an EasyCard or iPass and spend them at designated merchants. The vouchers cannot be reused or resold.
