Women live their lives faced with the possibility of experiencing all types of harassment on their everyday commute, from groping to catcalling to being followed home. Globally, it’s a problem.
As a temporary solution, e-hailing platform AirAsia Ride is introducing a new service called LadiesONLY as a part of their Community Drivers feature, which entails ride-hailing by women, for women — in other words, only female drivers for female passengers.
The female-only service is the first of several planned for the platform’s Community Drivers feature, which offers extra advantages not seen in ordinary rides. To book a LadiesONLY ride, use the Airasia Super App’s ‘Ride’ option.
Airasia Ride will also provide exclusive benefits worth up to RM400 to first-time female drivers who join the company without prior e-hailing experience or an e-hailing license, such as fee exemptions for PSV learning courses and exams and free medical check-ups. Meanwhile, all active and new female drivers will receive a free dashboard camera (terms and conditions apply).
Between 8 March and 7 April 2022, AirAsia Ride will give all earnings (excluding driver commission) from LadiesONLY rides to the women communities in need through the Women’s Aid Organisation.
Moreover, drivers receive 85% of net fares (excluding toll charges), which is more than other e-hailing companies in the market, making it a feasible part-time work and side income potential.
