In recent days, airlines including Egyptair, Emirates, Etihad, flydubai, and Qatar Airways have halted operations in Beirut. This move is driven by mounting safety concerns as the threat of more violence looms over Lebanon’s airspace. The suspensions come in the wake of Israel’s airstrikes on Hezbollah targets in response to the group’s missile launch, which was intercepted near Tel Aviv.
These flight suspensions have left travellers in Lebanon with increasingly limited options. A handful of regional carriers, such as Middle East Airlines, Iraqi Airways, and Ukrainian-Mediterranean Airlines, continue to operate, but capacity is severely restricted, and tickets are rapidly selling out. The Lufthansa Group, which includes Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and SWISS, has extended its flight suspensions to Beirut and Tehran until October 26.
