Kuala Lumpur isn’t short on luxury stays, but few manage to capture our busy city’s rhythm and still offer a pause quite like The RuMa. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t shout opulence but lets it slip in quietly through thoughtful design, impeccable service, and little indulgences that stay with you even after checkout.
When I checked in for a weekend escape, I wasn’t just looking for rest – I wanted to eat well, sleep better, and maybe even be a little bit spoiled. The RuMa delivered on all counts.
A feast that’s truly ATAS
The highlight of my weekend? The Sunday Table at ATAS, RuMa’s signature restaurant. This lunch buffet is no ordinary spread. Priced at RM228 nett per person, the rotating theme celebrates seasonal ingredients with creativity and flair.
The stars of the buffet (and a seafood lover’s dream) were the River Lobster Sizzle, served over a bed of crispy spinach capellini, and the richly satisfying Borneo Lobster Thermidor. The latter, in particular, was a personal favourite – buttery and well-balanced. Alongside these headliners, I found myself going back for seconds, (thirds and fourths) of the New York steak, grilled with a charred crust and juicy centre, as well as the grilled seabass, which was delicately flaky and full of flavour.
The buffet also features international fare, live stations, and items grilled over a Mibrasa charcoal oven. For those seeking to elevate their Sunday gathering, beverage packages are available too, offering free-flowing options of selected beer, wine, and sparkling wine.
The art of SANTAI
Over the weekend, I also made my way to the sixth floor several times to explore and indulge in RuMa’s leisure offerings. The outdoor infinity pool is a serene space with sweeping views of the concrete jungle, complete with loungers. Perfect for a lazy afternoon dip. Just a few steps away is UR SPA, a wellness retreat with a menu that merges traditional healing with modern science. I didn’t manage a treatment this round, but I did get a peek at the space. The calming aroma and plush interiors alone promised restoration.
Fitness buffs will appreciate the well-equipped gym, and for those in need of a grooming touch-up, the in-house barber by Truefitt & Hill provides a heritage grooming experience steeped in British tradition.
A place to call RuMa
After all that activity (or lack thereof) on both days, returning to my room was a welcomed retreat, which was every bit as elegant as the rest of the hotel. Designed with warm wood tones, rattan accents, and thoughtful details, the room balances homely comfort and style. A highlight was the array of complimentary snacks and drinks, a rare luxury even in some five-star establishments.
The bathroom was a sanctuary in itself, with his-and-hers sinks, a deep soaking tub, and automated blinds that reveal or conceal the space with the touch of a button. It’s these intuitive touches that make a stay feel seamless.
A weekend worth repeating
Service at The RuMa is worth a mention too. Staff members, from doormen to concierge attendants and to waitstaff at the restaurants, were warm and professional, always attentive but never intrusive. Every interaction added to the feeling of being truly looked after.
The RuMa promises an experience that feels like more than just a hotel stay. It feels like a moment to truly hit pause. With unforgettable meals and the peaceful retreat that awaits in your room, this is a place that lets you soak in the art of relaxation without missing a beat. A weekend here isn’t just a getaway—it’s a slice of heaven you’ll find yourself wanting to come back to.
