Ever since I fell head over heels with Koh Lipe’s postcard-perfect beaches seven years ago, I have been searching for a similar hidden gem with an added touch of serenity. Just a stone’s throw away from Koh Lipe’s idyllic North Point Beach lies Koh Adang, an untouched island paradise waiting to be explored.

Even during peak season, Koh Adang feels like your own private beach. During my time there, I encountered only a handful of other beach lovers. While many opt for a day trip from Koh Lipe, consider staying overnight to truly experience Koh Adang’s magic.

Whether you’re looking for a luxury stay to pamper yourself or a budget-friendly option, Koh Adang has it all.

For those seeking luxury, indulge in the unparalleled hospitality of Adang Island Resort, the island’s one and only premier accommodation choice.

For a comfortable option without breaking the bank, opt for the government-run Koh Adang Bungalows. The most convenient way to book is to call them via (089) 736 9328 or (074) 783 485, or speak with the National Parks Office directly.

For the adventurous souls, camp beneath the towering Sumatran pine trees at Tarutao National Park campsites. Imagine sleeping under the stars and waking up to the breathtaking sunrise over the Andaman Sea (best of both worlds). You can rent a tent with sleeping gear from the National Park when you arrive!

For day-trippers, I highly recommend an early departure to make the most out of your time on this island. You can take a 15-minute longtail boat (water taxi) ride from North Point Beach, which is what I did. It costs only 200 baht per person for a round trip.

Here’s a helpful tip: let the boat operator know your planned return time for a seamless journey back.

Feeling adventurous? Kayaking to Koh Adang is another exciting alternative! However, kayaking between the islands can be difficult for inexperienced kayakers. Sea currents can be strong, so if you’re not confident paddling with your arms to Koh Adang and back, taking the boat will be a much safer alternative.

Go chasing waterfalls at Pirate Waterfall

Koh Adang offers more than just stunning beaches. It is literally a playground for adventure seekers like myself. Go chasing waterfalls at Pirate Waterfall, also known as Chon Salad Waterfall. This approximately 45-minute hike features a fun and diverse terrain with some challenging parts where you will be scaling rocks that are bigger and taller than you! Not gonna lie, be ready for that adrenaline rush! After conquering the climbs, you will be rewarded by the cool, refreshing waters of Pirate Waterfall, likely all by yourself – a true oasis.

Hike to the highest viewpoint of Koh Adang, Chao Dao Viewpoint

You will love Chao Dao Viewpoint if you’re willing to trek to the summit to take in the scenery from above. This scenic hike, reaching 2,264 feet (690 meters) above sea level, offers sprawling views of both Koh Lipe as well as the turquoise expanse of the Andaman Sea stretching before you. The entire trek takes around 45 minutes each way. Do equip yourself with a water bottle for hydration and a good pair of shoes.

Snorkel to unveil an underwater oasis

Koh Adang offers fantastic snorkelling right from its shores. Simply swim 20 meters out, and you’ll find yourself floating above a vibrant coral reef teeming with colourful marine life. Imagine clownfish dancing in and out of anemones, alongside playful puffer fish, majestic groupers, and sleek barracuda. A world of underwater wonders awaits, just steps away from the beach!

Unwind and sunbathe on pristine sands

Prepare to be awestruck by the serenity of Koh Adang’s beaches compared to bustling Koh Lipe. Here, serenity reigns supreme! The western and southern shores of the island are the easiest to access, conveniently located near most facilities and accommodations. The west beach stretches for kilometres, offering a more secluded view the further south you venture. This idyllic stretch is also a prime spot to catch the sunrise, painting the sky with vibrant hues.

Front-row seats on sunsets with Stand-Up Paddleboarding

The main beach on Koh Adang is tailor-made for jaw-dropping sunsets. Rent a Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) and glide across the calm waters as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky with a spectacular array of hues. Picture yourself paddling along as the ocean transforms into a mirror, reflecting the fiery hues of the sunset, creating a truly magical experience.

End the night with a bioluminescent spectacle

As darkness falls, Koh Adang transforms into a canvas for another magical spectacle—bioluminescence! For the most mesmerizing experience, head to the beach after 9pm and seek a spot far from campground lights. Then, immerse yourself in the water, splash around, and you’ll feel like you’re swimming among the stars!
