Here’s the truth: I don’t quite fancy Valentine’s Day and have always thought it to be somewhat exclusive to people who aren’t in relationships. While I am in a romantic relationship, it’s not something that I’ve ever celebrated with my current partner.
On Valentine’s Day, everything is double the price, and celebrating love on a designated date seems so trivial. Though, I have to admit that getting dressed up for good food does sound nice. Still, love should be celebrated every day, right? And in a not-in-your-face type of way. What I’m trying to say is, I don’t quite see the appeal of Valentine’s Day.
That was until Galentine’s Day came along. A day dedicated to doing fun things like going to the movies, having (boozy) brunch, or a movie night-in with your best gal pal(s). That was something I definitely could get on board for, and a day dedicated to celebrating friendships feels far less ‘ick‘.
If you and your bestie(s) are looking to keep it chill this Valentine’s Day with a cosy movie night, here are some stellar suggestions. Get yo’ popcorn!

If ever there was THE perfect movie about the power of female friendships, Now & Then is it. With a star-studded (the 90s) cast made up of Demi Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Melanie Griffith, and Rita Wilson, the movie follows a group of childhood friends as three of them return to their hometown to see the birth of Chrissy’s baby. The film also shows us flashbacks of their 1970s summer, where their younger and innocent selves created unforgettable memories.
7. Steel Magnolias (1989)
Another movie that had me ugly-crying is none other than Steel Magnolias. Based on a play of the same name, the movie displays the bond between a group of women in a small Southern town in America and how they overcome a tragedy together. Sally Field, Dolly Parton, and Julia Roberts are just a few of the many stars in this movie.
8. Someone Great (2019)
