Beach, mountain, or city — what’s your dream escape?

That’s the question we recently posed to our Instagram community in our ongoing Zafigo Unfiltered Q&A series. The idea was simple: If you could pack a bag tonight and leave tomorrow, where would you go?

Answers came in fast, from quiet beach escapes to walkable cities and misty mountain trails. But, what we loved most was how varied the dreams were. Some wanted solitude, others wanted adventure. Some were craving a reset; others were looking to learn something new or feel something different.

The responses were a mix of settings, specific places, and dream activities. So, we took a bit of everything and matched them to six inspired travel escapes.

Shizunami, Japan: Learning to surf in a quiet coastal town

“I’d love to visit small towns in Japan, like Kyoto or Shizunami.”
“Learning how to surf — anywhere but Australia (because of the sharks).”

One of the most unexpected answers we received was Shizunami, a quiet surf town along Japan’s Pacific coast. It’s not a resort destination, and that’s exactly the point. Gentle waves, local surf schools, and a laid-back vibe make it ideal for anyone dreaming of doing something bold, like learning to surf as a form of self-discovery.

The Swiss Alps: Breathing mountain air and taking things slow

“Not in my best shape, but I’d love to go up a mountain at least once.”
“I want to go to the European mountains, like those in Switzerland, and experience the air there.”

The mountains weren’t far behind beaches in popularity. For some, the dream escape involved crisp air and scenic trails that quiet the mind. Switzerland, with its storybook villages and soaring peaks, offers exactly that. Whether you’re seeking a solo hike or simply the stillness found in wide open spaces, the Alpine Wonderland delivers.

Florence, Italy: Slow strolls and beauty at every corner

“I’d love to experience a walkable city and compare the city planning.”
“Somewhere in Italy.”

Italy came up for its general “walkability”. You could picture it: morning coffees, slow strolls, no itinerary. Some women dream of adventure. Others dream of just walking. Florence, with its compact streets and endless beauty, is perfect for the kind of reset that comes from not rushing anywhere.

The Maldives: Total disconnection and quiet luxury

“Somewhere without WiFi so I can tell people they can’t reach me.”
“Years ago, I would’ve said Bali — but not anymore. Maybe the Maldives is a better choice?”

No noise. No notifications. No one around. For some, the ultimate escape looks like a private villa over clear blue water, and the Maldives delivers exactly that. Whether it’s for solitude, healing, or just doing nothing for a while, this answer was a quiet scream for rest—and we get it. While we can’t always control the WiFi, a quick tap on airplane mode is sometimes all it takes to truly disconnect from the world.

Jeju, South Korea: Wild nights and nature-filled days

“Camping in a forest…”
“Jeju Island.”

This pick straddles mountain and beach energy and came with a clear activity in mind – camping. Jeju is known for its natural beauty: lava tubes, waterfalls, and forest trails. But the idea of sleeping out there brought a beautiful kind of wildness to the list. A reminder that sometimes the best escapes aren’t cushy, but grounding.

Balik Pulau, Penang: Culture, comfort, and something familiar

“Any small city or small town in Malaysia. There’s so much culture and soul to take in.”
“I’d love to go to the beach because I miss my hometown, Penang, so much.”

A little closer to home, Penang stood out not just as a destination, but as a feeling. One woman missed the beach and familiarity of her hometown. Another longed for the kind of small town that holds stories, not skyscrapers. Places like Balik Pulau, tucked away on the quieter side of Penang island, offer exactly that. With its laid-back charm, traditional homes, scenic paddy fields, and thriving local food culture, it’s the kind of escape that doesn’t ask you to do anything—just be.

Your answers matter

Whether it’s a forest tent in Jeju or a stone alley in Florence, your answers reminded us that travel dreams aren’t always about the most glamorous place; they’re about what we’re missing. Quiet. Movement. Connection. Or just a break.
