Travelling The World At 74

A ‘bionic’ grandmother shares her pearls of wisdom. There are two types of people in the world; those who are too lazy to climb up a flight of stairs and those who are willing to travel for 40 hours to explore a different continent. Hermandari Kartowisastro is the latter.

As a grandmother of four, with lilac highlights in her hair, Hermandari is driven to see most, if not all, parts of the world and doesn’t allow her age to define where she goes or the activities she does — from diving at 62 or seeing Mount Everest at 71. Hermandari’s free-spirit came from balancing her life using 5 pillars; passion, energy, adventure, respect, and love. ‘PEARL’ for short.

During her talk, she reminisced the time she accidentally slipped off of a rock, dislocated her arm and had to fly home for surgery — cutting her trip short much to her dislike. But it only motivated her to recover quickly so she could hop on the plane for her next adventure. She embodies the saying of ‘age is nothing but a number’ and we hope we grow to have the same passion and curiosity as she does.
