Let’s face it — now and then, we all get a hankering for something sweet, and a lot of the time, it’s nothing a simple glazed doughnut can’t fix. While I’m the kind of gal that prefers the classic, warm, and fluffy doughnut, the way these treats are served has evolved.
These days, bakers are getting pretty creative, and that often results in delicious flavours that no amount of willpower can stop you from having a second serving. Dunkin Donuts may be a heavyweight in the doughnut scene, but we highly recommend you try any of these seven more artisanal spots if you’re in the mood for something sweet.
1. Dondai Bakery, Selangor
Located in Shah Alam, Dondai Bakery is a humble hole in the wall that serves some of the fluffiest doughnuts in the suburb. Famous for its fluffy snow doughnuts, which you can cop at RM2.50 for one or RM10 for five pieces, this spot often has a line.
Their simple sugar-coated doughnuts are freshly baked and pretty damn stellar too. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, the owner may throw in a freebie piece or two!

2. Opah Donut, Kuala Lumpur
Started in 2018, Opah Donut gained popularity over their fluffy and warm doughnuts on TikTok, and before you know it, the average waiting time in line is more than 30 minutes long. Not one to keep things traditional, you can also expect to find square-shaped doughnut sandwiches with various fillings.
Want to keep it simple? Order the original-shaped doughnut with toppings like caramel, chocolate, matcha, and classic sugar-coated. Guess what? They go for a paltry RM2 a pop!

3. Dofi Donut & Coffee, Pahang
Are you looking into a-dough-rable desserts? If you are, I’ve found just the spot! At Dofi Donut & Coffee, you will be spoiled for choice with more than 100 flavours of colourful doughnuts. Not just that! They also serve coffee, croffle, and Dofi bites with dip, and square doughnuts. If you have no idea what flavours to choose, try their crème brûlée or Donut Susu flavour.
Address: Jalan Penjara, 25100 Kuantan, Pahang
4. Caah’s Donut Susu, Penang
A recipe passed down through generations is always one you can trust and often just tastes extra special, which is the case with Caah’s Donut Susu in Penang. For RM4 for four pieces, these milk doughnuts are seriously worth travelling for.
A true foodie knows that some of the best food spots often call a humble roadside stall its home, and on Jalan Permatang Pauh is where you’ll find people lining up for these melt-in-your-mouth rounds of goodness. Some even come by to purchase 20 pieces at one go! So, you know it’s going to be good.

5. Ainul Donut, Johor
Located in the southern state of Malaysia in Muar, Johor, this made-to-order doughnut stall is pretty famous among the locals. Having been around for four years, the freshly baked goods from here have their customers coming back for more, and you can choose from toppings like Milo, milk powder, or plain sugar-coated. There’s even a loyalty programme where you can claim a single stamp for every purchase, and once you hit 10 stamps, you redeem a free fluffy doughnut!

6. Bomboloni Fluffy, Selangor
Bombolini, also known as bombolene, is an Italian version of a filled doughnut, and it’s become quite a thing here in Malaysia. Those familiar with this dessert may have heard of Bombolini Fluffy; but if you haven’t, that’s okay. Located in Sungai Buloh, the bombolinis are as fluffy as the name suggests, and there are 29 flavours to choose from!
Expect other sweet treats here when you visit, like cakes, Kit Kat-topped doughnuts, and fruity toppings like mango.

7. Kisya Bakery, Perak
Previously known as Donut Ganja, Kisya Bakery is another doughnut spot worth raving about. For just RM1, you can get the classic sugar-coated doughnut but if you are feeling fancy, give any of their 10 toppings a try. There’s even a chocolate Koko Krunch option; come on! Bigger than your usual doughnuts, these fluffy things from Kisya Bakery are well worth the money.
