It’s quite evident that Subang Jaya is a haven for hawker stalls and kopitiams, offering local eats at every corner. Whether you’re new to the area, just passing through, or looking for something new in a familiar place, I’ve gathered a list of spots that come highly recommended by locals—and by locals, I mean friends who’ve lived here for years!

This is the holy grail of all fried rice! Ask anyone in Subang Jaya, and they’ll know about Uncle Soon Fried Rice. There’s something about the way they’ve mastered the perfect rice texture, and the wok hei definitely shines through. I personally love the char siew-only version with a fried egg on top, but if you love prawns, you should go for the char siew and prawn version.

Lian Heng Pan Mee gets packed during lunchtime, and parking spots can be a bit scarce, but that doesn’t stop the locals from having what is hailed as one of the best Pan Mee in Subang Jaya! The signature must-try here is their Hand Torn Pan Mee Soup. If you’re not fond of sweating over a bowl of hot soup, there’s also Dry Pan Mee, which sends you to noodle heaven when paired with their sambal belacan.

Don’t let the pale and simple appearance of the noodles fool you. Uncle Seng serves dry-style handmade noodles, and you get to pick sides of fried pork, char siew, and chicken curry. As recommended by a fellow local, ask for a side of curry sauce to douse on your noodles and make the dish flavourful! The noodles are also good on their own and have the ‘bouncy’ noodle texture that I like.

For something a little out of the ordinary, try this Nasi Lemak Wild Boar stall. Claypot Nasi Lemak is the popular dish here—it’s a unique twist on the Indian dish called Satti Sorru. Wild boar curry, onion anchovy sambal, and coconut rice are cooked in a clay pot, then topped with boiled eggs and cucumber. The result is a spicy, heavenly curry rice dish.

If they’re out of the Claypot Nasi Lemak, their regular rice claypot dishes slap too. Of course, they also serve regular Nasi Lemak.

For some classic Wan Tan Mee, Hock Hin is the place to go. It may not be popular or ‘hyped’ up, but a decent Wan Tan Mee stall can be hard to find. The noodles and wantons are cooked well, and you can pick from the usual suspects of sides like char siew, curry chicken, and braised chicken feet with shiitake mushrooms. Our local foodie has this every Sunday, religiously!

If you’re the kind of person who prefers a lighter, more herbal taste of Bak Kut Teh, Yu Kee will soothe your cravings. The meat portions here are generous, and service is fast and efficient. Regular customers return for their BKT soup as well as the customer service!

You can choose between white rice or oily rice, but of course, we’d always go with oily rice for more flavour. They also serve Sour & Spicy Vegetable Soup here for a little spicy kick on the side.

There’s nothing like a piping hot bowl of curry laksa noodles. Just thinking about it right now is making me salivate! The creamy, rich curry broth is soaked up by the noodles, and combined with the generous amount of toppings, it makes for a delicious, satiating meal.
