Kuala Lumpur is turning up the groove this April with KL Jazz in the Park, a free outdoor concert that swaps concert halls for open green space. Hosted by Orkestra Kuala Lumpur, the event continues the city’s push to bring accessible live music into public spaces, following a similar jazz-focused park concert held in 2019.
The event takes place on 18 April at the Panggung Anniversari in Perdana Botanical Gardens, one of KL’s most scenic public parks.
Music begins at 2 pm and runs until around 11 pm, making it easy to drop by for a casual afternoon outing in KL or stay through sunset and into the evening sets.
Lineup and schedule
The focus is on local jazz acts, with a mix of instrumentalists and vocal performers. Four local acts are set to take the stage, each bringing a distinct sound:
| 5:00 – 6:00 PM | Attap Band Also known as Kombo Budaya DBKL, they serve as the resident musicians of Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur, representing the city’s official cultural ensemble |
| 6:00 – 7:00 PM | AkashA, A fusion band with a Malaysian twist, blending Chinese, Malay, and Indian influences with genres ranging from blues and bluegrass to Latin, Middle Eastern, Irish and African highlife |
| 8:30 – 9:30 PM | Traditopia A traditional contemporary ensemble whose sound blends Malaysian traditional music with Western, classical, jazz, rock, Eastern, and continental influences |
| 9:30 – 10:30 PM | Tuku’ Kame’ A Sarawak-based group known for incorporating instruments and musical influences from diverse ethnic communities across Borneo. |
Tickets and entry
KL Jazz in the Park is free, but you’ll need to register for entry. Book your spot on DBKL’s Tempah@KL platform (mobile or tablet only).
This is very much a family-friendly event. There are no strict age limits, and the open park setting makes it suitable for families with children, casual listeners, and anyone curious about live jazz.
