Looking for a good park to jog in, a peaceful weekend stroll spot, or just somewhere to remember what it’s like for your feet to touch grass? Kuala Lumpur (KL) is full of surprisingly tranquil green spaces that offer you the perfect escape from office life without having to drive too far. Here are some of our favourite places to recharge and reconnect with Mother Nature.
1. Taman Tugu
A healthy green lung smack in the middle of KL, Taman Tugu is a 66-acre conserved secondary forest with a network of beautiful trails suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Once the residential area for both British and Malaysian government officers, it is now a sanctuary for indigenous fauna and tree species—many of which measure more than a meter in diameter and are potentially more than 100 years old. The trails here are clean and well-maintained, with many rest areas along the way.
Admission fees: FREE
Address: Taman Tugu, Persiaran Sultan Salahuddin, 50480 Kuala Lumpur.
2. Perdana Botanical Gardens
The granddaddy of KL parks, this colonial-era icon offers a hefty 226 acres of sprawling gardens, winding paths, lush heritage trees, and hidden offshoots. Like Taman Tugu, many of the trees here are over 100 years old. Points of interest within Perdana Botanical Gardens worth checking out include the ASEAN Sculpture Garden, Conservatory Garden, Orchid & Hibiscus Gardens, Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, and Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park. The area is massive, so you’ll likely discover something new with each visit.
Admission fees:
Perdana Botanical Gardens: FREE
Kuala Lumpur Bird Park: RM45 (Malaysian), RM85 (Non-Malaysian)
Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park: RM13 (Malaysian), RM25 (Non-Malaysian)
Address: Jalan Kebun Bunga, Tasik Perdana, 55100 Kuala Lumpur
3. KL Forest Eco Park
KL Forest Eco Park, or Taman Eko Rimba KL, is one of Malaysia’s oldest conservation areas and the last man (primary tropical rainforest) standing in central KL—in stubborn juxtaposition to the concrete jungle that surrounds it. It is home to a number of wildlife species, including silver leaf monkeys, which you can spot from the canopy walk if you’re lucky! There are also a number of hiking trails for hikers of different skill levels.
Admission fees: RM10 (Malaysian), RM40 (Non-Malaysian)
Address: KL Forest Eco Park, Jalan Puncak, Kuala Lumpur, 50250 Kuala Lumpur
4. Taman Tasik Titiwangsa
A recreational lakeside park with an incredible skyline view of Kuala Lumpur, Taman Tasik Titiwangsa or Titiwangsa Lake Park features a large central lake (that was a byproduct of tin mining activities under British rule). Designed in 1980 by Rio Takahashi, a Japanese landscape architect, and recently upgraded, it offers an array of activities, including a gorgeous canopy walk best enjoyed early in the morning.
Address: Jalan Kuantan, Titiwangsa, 53200 Kuala Lumpur
5. KL East Park
This relative newcomer to KL’s green scene has easily become a go-to, particularly for residents around the area looking for peaceful morning walks and a bit of a sweat. Part of the Bukit Tabur and Klang Gates Quartz Ridge network, the naturally regenerating secondary rainforest spans 53 acres and is home to rare, endemic species and unusual geological formations. Expect well-maintained trail loops, breathtaking city views, and loads of IG pitstops.
Note: It is advised that you register your free visit to the park here.
Address: Lot 201064, Jalan Melati Kuarza 3, 53100 Kuala Lumpur
6. Kebun Kebun Bangsar
Part community garden, part cute animal farm, this volunteer-run project is parked in a quiet residential part of Bangsar. Walk-ins are welcome and they’re open 365 days a year, including public holidays. Roam the garden and farm paths, pspsps the animals, and take in the city views from the green. Better yet, bring a picnic and a book!
Address: Lorong Bukit Pantai, Bangsar, 59100 Kuala Lumpur
7. Kerinchi Hill Forest Park
Known as Bukit Gasing to some and Bukit Kerinchi to others, the hill within Kerinchi Hill Forest Park or Taman Rimba Bukit Kerinchi offers different levels of hiking trails depending on which entrance you decide to start from. Consider it your friendly neighbourhood walk, with a side of leg day. The trails are a mix of cement pathways, boardwalks, red brick steps, and dirt paths shaded by the canopies above. With a hilltop view of Petaling Jaya and KL, it’s easy to see why this park is packed on weekends (this is our subtle little way of saying go during weekdays, if you can).
Address: Bukit Kerinchi, 59200 Kuala Lumpur
