Bringing a touch of home to the city: The Jelajah Hong Kong campaign bridges cultural gaps, proving that Hong Kong’s vibrant streets are as much a space for Muslim celebration as they are for urban exploration.
Hong Kong is stepping up its efforts to welcome Muslim travellers following a strong showing at the Halal in Travel Awards 2025, where the city secured nine major accolades. The recognition highlights Hong Kong’s growing reputation as a Muslim-friendly destination, supported by expanding halal dining options, Crescent Rated hotels, and improved travel resources for Muslim visitors.
Among the awards, Hong Kong was named Most Promising Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year and ranked first in the Muslim-friendly Accessible Travel Destination (Non-OIC) category. The city also placed second for Muslim Women Friendly Travel Destination (Non-OIC) and third overall among non-OIC destinations for Muslim-friendly travel.

Several local institutions were recognised as well. Ngong Ping 360 won Muslim-friendly Attraction of the Year, while Kowloon Shangri-La, Hong Kong and The Mira Hong Kong were both honoured as Muslim-friendly Hotel of the Year. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre was named Muslim-friendly Convention & Exhibition Centre of the Year, and the Incorporated Trustees of the Islamic Community Fund of Hong Kong received recognition for their contribution to the city’s halal dining landscape.
A growing Muslim-friendly infrastructure
These recognitions reflect Hong Kong’s growing Muslim-friendly travel ecosystem. Today, the city offers 195 halal-certified, Muslim-friendly, and Muslim-owned restaurants, spanning local favourites, international cuisine and Michelin-recognised establishments. In addition, 59 hotels are now Crescent Rated, offering amenities such as prayer mats, Qibla direction indicators, and halal meal options upon request.
Beyond infrastructure, the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is also strengthening its outreach to Muslim travellers through cultural initiatives. As part of the Jelajah Hong Kong campaign, the board recently collaborated with Malaysian singers Ernie Zakri and Syamel Aqmal on the first-ever Raya music video filmed in Hong Kong, highlighting the city’s growing cultural connection with Southeast Asian audiences. To help travellers plan their journeys, HKTB continues to update its Muslim Travel Guide, a resource that highlights halal-certified dining options, Crescent Rated hotels, prayer facilities and attractions across the city.
Exploring Hong Kong’s iconic attractions
Visitors can explore a wide range of attractions, from the scenic Ngong Ping 360 cable car and the family-friendly Ocean Park to the iconic Avenue of Stars and the lively Temple Street Night Market. Muslim travellers will also find familiar spaces such as the Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre, along with popular halal dining spots like the Islamic Centre Canteen, known for its halal-certified Cantonese dim sum.
Hong Kong welcomed over 49.9 million visitors in 2025, marking a 12 per cent year-on-year increase. Malaysia remains one of Hong Kong’s key Southeast Asian visitor markets, with arrivals rising 6 per cent year-on-year.
