After its award-winning debut in 2023, Dondang Dongeng returns to the stage, bringing Malaysia’s beloved folklore to life through enchanting music and storytelling. Supported by ArtsFas, Yayasan Hasanah, and the Ministry of Finance, this captivating production won five awards at the 19th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards (BCAA) 2024, including Best of 2023.
With a fresh take on classic tales like the clever Sang Kancil and legendary local princesses, the show explores a simple yet powerful question: Do Malaysians, especially children, still know our folklore? Through mesmerizing performances and heartfelt melodies, Dondang Dongeng bridges the past and present, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Malaysia in a magical, immersive experience.
One of its most touching highlights is “Pekan” by Mia Palencia, which won Best Original Composition at the BCAA, blending nostalgia with contemporary sounds to create something truly special.
Bringing this magical production to life is a powerhouse creative team featuring Melina William as Creative Director & Music Producer, Irena Taib as Composer & Music Director, and Mia Palencia as Composer, with stunning set design by Joanne Ooi and mesmerizing lighting by Yew Pui Cheng.
