We personally can’t wait to go on holiday again — somewhere other than the domain of my daydreams. Since the world turned upside down, planning a vacation was simply out of the question. However, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel for those longing for an island vacation in 2021. Some island resorts in Malaysia have been preparing for their reopening early next month!
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) expects popular island resorts such as Langkawi, Pangkor, Redang, Tioman, and Perhentian to achieve herd immunity by the end of August and be ready to reopen early September for those who are fully vaccinated.
If you’ve had enough of the isolation and can’t wait to experience breathtaking scenery, beautiful beaches, and exciting adventure activities once again, bear in mind that you’ll have to be a little more patient. The reopening of these resorts still depend on the government’s decision and the standard operating procedures to be set to prevent an outbreak which may cause the tourism sector to close again.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin mentioned plans to make Langkawi a national travel bubble pilot project. After more than a year of being hit by the epidemic, Muhyiddin believes that this pilot initiative is critical to reviving Malaysia’s declining tourism industry.
If the Langkawi pilot project proves to be a success, the government aims to adopt the tourism bubble method in other destinations.
