Hokkaido Table’s TRX location makes it the perfect spot for a movie date at the Aurum Theatre and a meal after. Their new menu, though? A seafood lover’s dream. Hokkaido Table’s new seafood offerings are as fresh as they come, reflecting the Japanese prefecture’s natural produce. Combined with techniques and flavours from Italian cuisine, your dining experience here will be memorable, as was ours, when we recently indulged in dishes from their revamped menu.
For starters

Having seafood in its rawest form is the best way to determine its freshness, and that is exactly what we did. I’m not usually keen on sashimi, and for me to say that this experience changed my mind, says a lot. So, sashimi lovers, you won’t be disappointed.
We began with two sashimi-loaded dishes to get our tastebuds going. The Bara Chirashi was such a great starter—salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and octopus on a bed of sushi rice with a dollop of wasabi, some pickled ginger, and tobiko. The freshness and flavours of the fish, sushi rice, wasabi, and soy sauce danced on our tongues, preparing our palates for what’s next.

For those looking for a carb-free sashimi dish, opt for the Kaisen Salad. Salmon, king fish, and octopus sashimi are the stars of this dish, set on a salad base of coral lettuce, frisée, capsicums, and Thai asparagus, drizzled well in a citrusy yuzu dressing.
A Japanese-inspired meal would be incomplete without sushi. The Engawa Roll definitely sits at the top of our favourites list out of all the dishes served to us that afternoon. This sushi roll consists of flounder fin with sushi rice coated in tobiko, which is then topped with ikura and fried shallots, with a drizzle of spicy mayonnaise. It was an umami bomb and a textural experience in our mouths. And the ikura bursting in your mouth when you bite into it? Heaven.
Mains for sharing
After an appetising starter session, it was time to dig into the big guys. Starting with something simple but often underrated, the Baked Salmon Teriyaki. It’s what you’d expect from fresh salmon in a teriyaki glaze, with the addition of hajikami (pickled ginger shoots) and asparagus, and some pickled radish on the side. Savoury, fresh, and umami-filled.
Next, the Soft Shell Crab Karaage with Salted Egg Sauce is a sure crowd-pleaser. With the salted egg sauce coating the crunchy soft shell crab karaage, its greasy, crunchy, umami-ness makes it a great sharing plate. It’s a dish that anyone at the table can dig into when they want an indulgent crunch.
For something more indulgent and with Italian flair, the Lobster Risotto Alle Arabiata may be what your heart is longing for. Made with Arborio rice for the best risotto texture, the house arrabbiata sauce gave the dish a deep, rich flavour. The Canadian lobster was, of course, fresh, fleshy and bouncy—just what you’re looking for in this clawed crustacean.
Sweet endings

Treat-yourself meals would be incomplete without a dessert or two. We started with the Sasa Custard Mochi, which was such a delightful experience. From the presentation to the opening of the lotus leaf revealing the two-layered, jelly-like mochi with a custard center, we’d highly recommend ordering this.
The Hanami Dango, pastel and cheerful tri-coloured sweet rice dumplings, were soft and chewy in texture. Crushed cashew nuts were sprinkled on top of them, adding a burst of nutty flavour which complemented the sweetness of the dango.
