Overwhelmed by the food choices at The Exchange TRX? We’ll guide you bite by bite. (Left: Image by @amazonaskl. Right: Image by @vcrstacks.)
Brace your belly because you’re about to enter one of KL’s most delicious rabbit holes. With over 50 food and drink spots packed into this mega lifestyle destination, The Exchange TRX is basically a gourmet maze, whether you’re craving RM12 noodles or a splurge-worthy omakase.
But with so many options screaming for your attention (and your appetite), where do you even begin? In this short guide, we focus on eats that may or may not break the bank but definitely deserve some love and attention.
1. Amazonas
If you’re going to splash out, you’d best make it count, and Amazonas is where your money feels well spent. This lush dining experience is more than just a pretty face. The moody lighting, cascading greenery, and dramatic interiors set the tone, but it’s the menu that seals the deal for us.
Think South American-inspired flavours with premium flair: juicy steaks, wood-fired seafood, and smoky grilled vegetables that will have you appreciating food presentation more than ever.
Signature dishes like the Flaming Wagyu Tomahawk (perfect for sharing, if you’re feeling generous), their tender Patagonian lamb ribs (may have you shedding a quiet tear of joy), and the Spicy Seafood Cazuela are clear crowd-pleasers.
It’s the kind of place you go for a special occasion, a date night flex, or just to reward yourself for surviving another week of adulting. Wear something cute because the lighting is doing everyone favours.

2. GU ON Korean BBQ
If your idea of self-care involves sizzling slabs of meat over open flame, welcome to your happy place. GU ON Korean BBQ brings the K-drama dining fantasy to life: polished wood, moody lighting, and sleek ventilation hoods that won’t leave your hair smelling like smoke. This is the only downside to Korean BBQ, and I think we can all agree.
What sets GU ON apart isn’t just the quality cuts (though yes, the wagyu practically melts on contact). It’s the full-on experience: premium service, a curated selection of banchan that changes with the seasons, and house-made dipping sauces that might ruin you for all others. The staff here know their meat—they’ll grill it for you to perfection if you’re feeling lazy.
Personally, we don’t feel like it’s your everyday BBQ joint, and the price reflects that. But for special occasions, or when you just need thick-cut pork belly and jeon in your life, GU ON delivers.

3. Shake Shack
The New York icon officially landed in Kuala Lumpur (KL) in 2024, and it brought the hype (and the queue) with it. Shake Shack at The Exchange TRX marks the brand’s first foray into Malaysia, and while it may fall under the “fast food” category, it’s definitely a premium experience by burger standards.
The star of the show? That signature ShackBurger: a squishy potato bun hugging a juicy Angus beef patty, crisp lettuce, melty cheese, and their secret ShackSauce. Add in crinkle-cut fries, a cold milkshake, and a KL-exclusive menu item (their jalapeno lineup is a shout), and you’ve got yourself a cheat meal that feels strangely justified.
Yes, you could get a burger elsewhere for less. But few places nail the trifecta of quality, consistency, and branding like Shake Shack does. They also opened a second outlet in Sunway Pyramid, so you know it’s thaaat good!

4. Café Colombo
If you’ve never had the chance to try elevated Sri Lankan dining, Café Colombo is where you’ll want to park yourself. Bringing Colombo’s vibrant food culture to the heart of KL, this restaurant fuses tradition with refinement, serving up curries, sambols, and seafood dishes that feel both familiar and new.
Expect beautifully plated dishes that highlight spices in nuanced layers. We’re talking creamy coconut-based curries to fiery seafood mains. The hopper set (think paper-thin, bowl-shaped pancakes made of rice flour) is a must-order, best enjoyed with their selection of sambols and curries for dipping and scooping.
Pair that with a cocktail inspired by tropical Sri Lankan flavours and you’ve got yourself a feast worth lingering over. It’s not the cheapest stop at TRX, but Café Colombo gives you storytelling on a plate.

5. VCR Stacks
Already a darling of KL’s cafe scene, VCR brings its sandwich-focused concept, Stacks, to TRX, and this one’s a crowd magnet. Thick, generously stuffed sandwiches that turn something as simple as bread and filling into a messy indulgence; the way all sandwiches should be.
Their signatures include the Pastrami Melts and the Classic Chicken, each built with layers of flavour. Coffee, of course, is top-tier, which is no surprise from a brand that’s long been a benchmark for KL’s speciality scene. Pair a sandwich with a cup of their filter brew or a creamy latte, and you’ve got yourself a meal that feels both casual and elevated, but filling.
It’s pricier than your average mall sandwich shop (but is it though?), but with quality ingredients, artisanal care, and the VCR name behind it, Stacks makes “just a sandwich” feel like an experience.
