ZafigoX 2024 Highlight: HER Journeys Photography Contest Winners

The HER Journeys Photography Contest saw an overwhelming response from Zafigo readers worldwide, evident in the 54 submissions received since our first call for submissions in August! Being our first-ever contest organized in collaboration with Women Photographers Malaysia (WPM), the participation was an impressive display of talented women travelling across the world.

All 143 photos received from the submissions were reviewed by our esteemed judges, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, the founder of Zafigo herself and Aisha Nazar, the co-founder of Women Photographers Malaysia (WPM). The judging process was challenging, especially with the astounding number of submitted photos. However, after a thorough yet transparent process, the 7 photographs below shone through and managed to capture our judges’ hearts effectively.

An award ceremony was held over the ZafigoX Rejuvenation weekend on Conference Day for the winning photographers, with our 2ND place winner, Sinsee Ho, in attendance.

1ST Place: Callie Eh

Maramureș is a well-known traditional region in Romania. Maria, 84 years old, continues to live a traditional lifestyle and practices the wool looping in her daily life.

2ND Place: Sinsee Ho

Prize: 2D1N stay for two at Temple Tree Resort, Langkawi + High Tea for two persons

Lovely sunset at Aonang beach, Krabi, Thailand. Using a slow shutter speed, the moving people and objects/long tail boats on the sea are blurred, resulting in an impressionistic and ethereal feel.

3RD Place: Gabrielle Ashley Boudville

Prize: 2D1N stay for two at Anantara Desaru Coast

In the heart of one of the lowest and hottest places on Earth lies the Danakil Depression, where the vibrant Dallol Hydrothermal System showcases an otherworldly palette of colours.

4TH Place: Kamanursyuhadah Binti Kamarozman

Prize: 3D2N stay for two at Majestic Melaka

At Thale Noi Lake in Phattalung, Thailand, a young child embarks on a serene journey, surrounded by the vibrant beauty of blooming lotus flowers.

Prize: Sunday Brunch for two at W Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Batukaras, where time slows down and the first light of day awakens the ocean. A surfer walks the shoreline, preparing to ride the waves as the world stirs to life.

Prize: Saturday Drunch for two at W Hotel Kuala Lumpur

As dawn breaks over the Greek island, the sea fog that acts as a natural blanket covering the island begins to arise through the Greek Caldera. The fog blends with the soft morning light and the Cycladic Greek pastel houses.

Consolation: Cheah Aun Pein

Prize: 90-minute All-You-Can-Eat Dim Sum for two at W Hotel Kuala Lumpur

A visit to a village in Guangdong during Chinese New Year to experience the Fire Dragon Festival. This centuries-old tradition features a parade where ‘dragon’s followers’ like fish and prawns are fired up before the fire dragon dance begins.

Beyond the excellent display of artistic talents, we hope it has been an empowering experience for all our contestants who participated in the HER Journeys Photography Contest in conjunction with ZafigoX this year.
