This Sabahan talent has established herself as a distinguished music producer, composer, and singer-songwriter with 18 years worth of experience in the Malaysian music industry. She first graced our national screens with Akademi Fantasia 4 in 2006 where she gained a spot among the top-five finalists. Since then, Velvet Aduk has gone on to cement her status in the public eye with memorable hits such as Sumandak Sabah and Oi Gaman.

Having a strong dedication towards the local music scene, especially in Borneo, she recently collaborated with fellow renowned Bornean, Marsha Milan and Alena Murang with War Cry and Bejugit Betanda Menari. Be captivated by her vocals – a unique blend of contemporary music and traditional Bornean sounds – live this weekend!

Sheena Baharudin is a dynamic Malaysian poet-educator, editor, and spoken word artist with nearly 15 years of experience in the performing arts. Her work often delves into themes of identity, belonging, and the human experience, which can be observed through her bilingual poetry collections: Rhymes for Mending Hearts and All the Bodies We’ve Embraced. Sheena’s poems have been featured in various local and international anthologies.

Additionally, she was both a playwright and lead actress in Suatukala’s all-female musical production Pulau Sri, a community initiative designed to promote storytelling among the youth of Langkawi. Using the creative arts as a tool of empowerment, catch Sheena taking our stage this year and explore art beyond performance.

Kuala Lumpur native January Low has been practising the classical dance from Eastern India called Odissi for close to 30 years. Her practice includes observing how Odissi exists in her daily, Southeast Asian female body and investigating various entry points to create different encounters with Odissi that enable agency for both audience and performer.

Currently under the mentorship of Odissi exponent, Bijayini Satpathy, she had first gained the reputation as a promising artist while dancing under the tutelage of Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, a renowned Malaysian choreographer and classical ballet dancer. Be a part of this spiritual journey through Odissi with January as she takes you along for a ride in this artistically mesmerising form of art.

Besides performing, January is also hosting a movement language workshop at ZafigoX 2024; get your workshop tickets here.
