It’s New Year’s Eve and you’re in Malaysia. Will there be a ball drop? Or will it pass with no hoo-ha?
Fret not! NYE is definitely celebrated and it’s usually celebrated in style. Check out these suggestions for ending this year with a bang!
1. Enjoy the fireworks
The best part of NYE would be the fireworks! Ushering in the new year with a literal bang, places such as around the Petronas Towers and KLCC park (KL city centre), the Curve and One Utama in Damansara Mutiara and Sunway Pyramid (Subang Jaya). Be prepared though. These fireworks shows would attract loads of locals as well as tourists so it’ll be a bit of a squeeze. Remember to keep an eye on your belongings.
2. Seek the party by barhopping
If you’d like to celebrate the New Year’s with a bit of style and less crowds, head to one of the numerous bars in KL city.
Head to Mai Bar in Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral located a stone’s throw away from the Kuala Lumpur Sentral station for a splashing good time (pool party). There’ll be a great view of the fireworks from the rooftop bar. Best part is that this’ll be in the middle of the city so it is possible (weather allowing) to see other fireworks going off from other places.
Sky Bar, located on the 33rd floor of the Traders Hotel (next to KL Convention Centre) would have a great view of the fireworks show. With an ice cold (possibly alcoholic) drink in hand this is a great way to spend New Year’s Eve. Have a look at their drink menu here.
3. Dinner in style
Alternatively, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, located a short walk away from the Petronas Towers will have a New Year’s Eve Buffet Dinner. The view would definitely be so much sweeter with something sumptuous on your plate and the tipple of your choice. For more information, check out the hotel’s website.
Besides the Mandarin Oriental, Shangri-La will also host a New Year’s Eve dinner at its restaurant Lafite. At RM580++ per head, expect an eight-course dinner to remember. You can view the menu here.
4. Dance, dance, dance
For a more thumping New Year’s countdown, hop on over to Zouk Club Malaysia on Jalan Ampang. Please do note that after the NYE party on 31 Dec 2014, Zouk KL will be moving to a new location.
